Minimal weight paired with more freedom of movement for best sleeping comfort. That about sums up the results of the long standing development efforts for the new sleeping bag series Alpstein. After extensive field-testing in the mountains of the same name south of Lake Constance, the VAUDE sleeping bag developer Markus Ernst is confident about the new system. “This quilt concept makes an extremely lightweight and comfortable sleeping system possible.” The Alpstein is a new approach – not a conventional sleeping bag – more like a blanket with a foot. Combined with an obligatory sleeping mat or air mattress, insulation at the back of the sleeping bag is superfluous – the thermal insulation comes from the pad. This not only saves weight and distributes the down fill more efficiently, greater freedom of movement is created as well. A patented connection system to the mat prevents slipping and ensures the necessary warmth. With universal clips, the sleeping bag can be attached to most thermal pads with a welded seam. In warm summer weather, the Alpstein can also be used as a blanket. “We have transferred the comfort of home to camping, saving 1/3 the weight and pack size,” said Markus Ernst.
The ultralight down sleeping bag in an H-chamber construction is filled with 450 grams of premium, pure white goose down (850 cuin). Like all of its down products (sleeping bags and apparel), VAUDE only uses feathers and down with an ethically clean and transparent origin in accordance with the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). With a comfort limit down to -4°C (EN-Norm 13537) the Alpstein 450 DWN is designed for tours from spring to fall. An even slimmer version with 200 DWN fill is designed for light summer tours. A featherweight sleeping system for minimalists who prefer to sleep under the stars – a quilt for any occasion.
