For Fall/Winter 2014 KEEN adds the Durand collection to its hiking selection, establishing the brand as a comprehensive hiking resource with styles for any trail adventure. This collection offers hikers looking to make serious miles a full-featured, durable option from KEEN.
The Durand WP Mid and Durand WP Low compliment the successful hiking styles like the Gypsum, Bryce, Marshall and the low profile multi-sport CNX collection.
Built in KEEN’s backyard at its Portland, Oregon factory, the Durand features a unique direct-inject construction technique that attaches a nubuck leather and breathable mesh upper directly to the midsole resulting in unprecedented durability.
The Durand is designed to offer underfoot support, cushioning and protection on long hikes. It employs a PU midsole rebounding step after step and an integrated heel cushion that locks directly into the footbed to support the foot while maximizing shock absorption for comfort hikers can trust. In a compression test conducted to demonstrate how the Durand resists compacting overtime, results showed after one million steps, KEEN’s PU midsole compressed 3 percent versus more than 50 percent compression of a traditional EVA midsole. “Our midsole material keeps its cushioning, protective and stabilizing qualities, from the first step to the millionth.” said Jeff Dill, KEEN’s outdoor business unit director.
Built for varying terrain, this premium hiker features a dual-compound outsole that combines two distinct types of rubber – one around the edges to maximize edging and grip, and another in the center to maximize durability in high wear areas. The KEEN.DRY waterproof, breathable membrane makes the Durand unstoppable in wet conditions. A lightweight and rigid TPU shank adds stability and midfoot support.
