MUTANT Boreal <BR /> Summer 2016

To climb the hardest routes and boulders, a shoe must excel in all areas; to find friction wherever it appears. Edges, smears, heel and toe hooks; any of these may be needed to ensure a successful ascent. With the Boreal Mutant, there is no compromise.

The Mutant features a highly asymmetric and downturned last to optimally position the foot on steep rock. The highly advanced sole unit comprises a super-sticky molded Zenith™ rubber forefoot half-sole and one-piece Zenith™ heel cup. These molded sections have an accurate 3D shape to hold the foot with no dead space, and maintain their shape over time. Thinner rubber is used in the middle of the sole to enhance flexibility, and ensure a close fit under the arch. The Lateral Torsion System, a band running around the heel and under the foot, securely holds the foot in place aiding power transmission across the shoe. The premium quality unlined leather upper features our new “Friction Skin” coating for ultimate toe-hooking ability without the pain of a rubber toe covering and the simple elastic and single Velcro strap closure system ensures a comfortable, low profile fit.

The Mutant is the ideal choice for boulderers, competition climbers and sport climbers operating at higher grades or on steeper rock.
